Mid Essex Hospital service NHS
The Trust offers health services on six separate sites across mid Essex.
The biggest centre the general hospital for the area is Broomfield in Chelmsford. It is and 800-bed acute hospital offering a vast range of services and clinical areas. Broomfield Hospital is also home to the world renowned St Andrews Centre a specialist unit for plastic surgery and burns.
Also in Chelmsford is St Johns Hospital, which currently houses the Trusts main maternity unit and childrens services. Among other things, it is also the base for the GUM clinic.
The Breast Unit and Public Health Laboratories are run from the Chelmsford and Essex in New London Road, Chelmsford.
All of these acute services across the three sites in Chelmsford will be centralised at Broomfield Hospital as part of a 120 million scheme. The newly rebuilt Broomfield should be fully operational by 2009.
St Peters Hospital with its own maternity unit and outpatients clinics is based in Spital Road, Maldon, but plans are underway to move the hospital to a brand new site in the town.
Braintree is home to two centres run by the Trust. It offers therapy services at St Michaels Hospital, and runs a maternity unit at William Julien Courtauld Hospital.
