The Ministry of Defence works with the Armed Forces to defend the interests of the United Kingdom and our overseas territories.

In everyone's best interests

With the Armed Forces, our goal is to act as a force for good by bringing peace and stability throughout Europe, however, our interests extend much further. Our international responsibilities include 13 overseas territories, including for example the Falkland Islands. We also depend heavily on the export market and invest more income abroad than most major economies.

As a democracy we try to act as positive influences in the world. We do this through our permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, by working with our partners in the European Union and NATO and through wider international partnerships.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is British Industry's largest single customer. The MOD spends around £10 billion a year on equipment, support and services.
